Clinical Skin Care Anti-Aging Chemical Peels Acid peels are a specific technique for skin renewal. With this process an acid is applied to the skin for a short period of time and is then either neutralized or washed off. This procedure rapidly removes the damaged layer of dead skin cells revealing the fresh skin, and stimulating cell rebuilding and restructuring of the deeper skin layers, which can help the skin appear smoother, healthier, plumper and tighter, with more even pigmentation. Low potency peels are non toxic to skin cells and require little skin recovery time and are used as superficial peels. Superficial peels have the best results when they are used in a series of peels with two to four week intervals. Acid peels are safe for all skin types but a consultation with a history must be done also to redefine goals and to recommend pre-peel homecare. Deep peels are effective in a number of conditions requiring a deep peel. Primary agents used are phenol and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). These types of agents are by their nature more toxic to cells and can produce complications such as colouration or discolouration. The recovery time is also much longer. Indications for peels:
During peels mild discomfort, stinging, itching, burning and tightness may be experienced and a one week renewal and rebuilding process let your skin return to normal. Your skin will then feel refreshed, hydrated and have a more youth full appearance. Peels can be combined with Botox, Fillers and prescription home care.
